Rehabilitation and alternative employment of the people engaged in begging
Begging has been going on in human society since ancient times. Its history is long in the subcontinent. Due to exploitation, deprivation and river erosion, poverty, disease, illiteracy, etc. during the British and Pakistan period, begging became widespread. At present, there is a widespread prevalence of begging as a means of making money by some people and a group of selfish quarters. Begging is a social disorder. This is not a recognized profession. At present the social and economic development of Bangladesh has taken place. At present the social and economic development of Bangladesh has taken place. There has been a transition from a least developed country to a developing country. It is time to free the country from the shame of begging. 
In order to implement the government's commitment to alleviate poverty in the country and to prevent people from engaging in unscrupulous occupations such as begging, the Ministry of Social Welfare has rehabilitated and provided alternative employment to the people engaged in begging. The program began in August 2010. 
Although the rehabilitation of beggars started in 2010, it did not become widespread. The present people-friendly government is very sincere about eradicating social ills like begging forever. With this in mind, for the first time in the 2016-2017 financial year, money was sent to 56 districts of the country for the rehabilitation of beggars for alternative employment.
This program is running in Tarakanda upazila. Through this program, 31 beggars have been rehabilitated and alternative employment has been provided.
