Development for Vedic people
The Vedic population is a small part of the total population of Bangladesh. According to a survey by the Department of Social Services, the Vedic population in Bangladesh is about 75,000. The present government has undertaken various activities to improve the living standards of the Vedic and backward communities and to integrate them into the mainstream of society. From 2012-13 financial year to 2018-19, there were two programs to improve the living standards of Vedas and backward people.
Brief background of the program: From the financial year 2012-2013, 6 districts of the country have been included as a pilot program. The allocation for the financial year 2012-13 was Rs. 600,000 (sixty six lakhs). In the financial year 2013-2014, this program was implemented in 21 districts including 14 new districts and the districts are Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gopalganj, Faridpur, Sherpur, Tangail, Chittagong, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Comilla, Pabna, Naogaon, Dinajpur, Nilpham. Kushtia, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali and Habiganj.
In the 2019-20 financial year, this program was separated and named as Veda Community Livelihood Development Program and Backward Community Development Program. 9 crore 23 lakh has been allocated for the 2019-20 financial year of the Vedic Community Livelihood Development Program. 9 crore 23 lakh in the financial year 2020-2021 of the Vedic Community Livelihood Development Program.
Activities implemented:

1. In order to educate and develop the Vedic school going students, stipends are being provided at 4 levels. The stipend rates are respectively

A) Primary level (monthly) - 600 / -

B) Secondary level (monthly) - 600 / -

C) Higher Secondary Level (Monthly) - 1000 / -

D) Higher Level (Monthly) - 1200 / 
2. Provision of special old age allowance at the rate of Rs. 500 / - per month for disabled and indigent Vedas aged 50 years and above;

3. Bringing the working Vedas into the mainstream of the society by increasing their skills and involving them in income generating activities through vocational training.

The program started in Tarakanda Upazila in the financial year 2019-2020. At present there are 6 beneficiaries of this program. An allowance of Rs. 800 per month is paid.
